The Severn Trent Water proposal for a windfarm at Aston Hall Farm near Stone

Severn Trent Water Limited propose to install three 132m (433 feet) high wind turbines on the Aston Hall farm land between Burston and Aston by Stone. These turbines are just a little shorter than Blackpool Tower (158m/518 feet), and 6½ times the height of the Angel of the North.

Current position

On 18th November the Stafford Borough Council Planning Committee refused permission for a wind monitoring mast shown on the plan at A1. This is a temporary wind monitoring mast, up to two years to collect data on wind speeds etc.

Severn Trent Water have appealed against the decision to the Planning Inspectorate. The appeal process started on 22nd December 2009 and written representations were to be submitted by 2nd February. The appeal is likely to be concluded after a site visit by mid to late summer.

We have made written submission to the Inspectorate and our now awaiting notification of the date of the Inspectors site visit (we will want supporters on site on that day), which we expect to be sometime in May/June.

The position of the turbines are marked on the plan (1, 2 and 3) with photos showing how the turbines may affect the local landscape

There is no justification for these turbines on either economic or environment grounds.
